McDanel Memorial Scholarship

DOUGLAS & RYAN MCDANEL MEMORIAL Scholarship

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of and art contributions of these two artists to Wyoming County, NY and the greater GLOW region.

$500 will be awarded to one adult visual artist who has been creating continually for the past five years or more. The award will be determined by how well the artist’s work and proposal reflect Doug’s and Ryan’s art processes or philosophies.

Ryan worked in steel, and said of his work, “I … am alive during the entire creative development of a piece… I very rarely take the objects that I make seriously, but I do take my art making very seriously.”

Doug was very introspective with his work. He enjoyed creating work in solitude. Both his paintings and sculptures reflect a deep passion for esthetic beauty and simplicity that evokes deep thought and contemplation from the observer.

The scholarship fund may be used to create new work or pay for an artist residency or retreat. A simple photo journal report will be required to document the purpose for which the funds were used.

TO APPLY:

Applicants must submit the following by email to acwcyouthgrants@artswyco.org:

• A brief bio or artist’s statement including name, address, age and phone number.
• Proposal addressing the scope of the project / what you intend to create or study with the funds.
• 10 images of work created within the past two years; images should be at least 300 DPI.

All information except photos must be submitted as a PDF or Microsoft WORD document (no Google Docs please).

This opportunity is open to Wyoming County artists or members of the ACWC.

Deadline: December 31 annually.
