ACWC’s grant programs connect communities through the arts. The Community Arts Grant program brings art to the people and people to the arts by supporting community-based organizations, groups, collectives or artists in Wyoming and Allegany counties for arts and cultural projects in their communities. The Statewide Community Regrant program (SCR) funds these grants to enhance the cultural climate in communities and neighborhoods throughout New York State.
COMMUNITY ARTS GRANTS FINAL REPORTS
SCR Program
Founded in 1977, the New York State Council on the Arts’ (NYSCA’s) Statewide Community Regrants Program, (formerly the Decentralization Program or DEC), was developed to ensure that New York State’s cultural funding reaches every part of the state. Renamed the Statewide Community Regrant Program (SCR) in 2021, these grants have since become one of NYSCA’s most effective means of making arts support available to geographically, economically, and ethnically diverse segments of the state’s population.
The program forms the cornerstone of the Council’s partnership with local arts agencies throughout the state, providing a link between NYSCA and portions of the community that might not otherwise be able to access funding from NYSCA. Through SCR regrant funding, SCR sites such as the Arts Council for Wyoming County provide project support to a wide range of professional, vocational and educational arts and culture in their respective communities including the creation of new work by individual artists. Statewide Community Regrants serve as an umbrella for three distinct funding categories: Connect, Mentor and Elevate.
The Arts Council for Wyoming County provides grants in all three categories:
Connect (Community Arts), which provide support to community-based organizations, groups, collectives or artists in Wyoming and Allegany counties for arts and cultural projects in their communities. Grants can fund exhibitions, performances, concerts, festivals, demonstrations and workshops, screenings, readings, and more!
Mentor (Arts Ed.), designed to support arts education projects in K-12 public schools and after-school settings, and partnerships with community-based organizations (such as senior centers, scouts, clubs, etc.).
Elevate (Individual Artists), specifically designed for artists to create new work in their own communities. This opportunity is designed to increase support for artist-initiated activity and highlight the role of artists as important members of the community.
