"In Your Backyard" Paintings by David Dean

The final show of the Arts Council for Wyoming County’s “Close to Home” theme is fitting: local landscapes and vistas of the area as interpreted by David Dean, master watercolor painter.

David’s story begins in his childhood kitchen, where there was a photograph of a sugar shanty hanging on the wall. He told his mother that he would paint that
shanty someday. Many years later, he began his journey to become a master painter.

“David’s journey as a painter is inspiring for people who always have wanted to start creating art,” says Jackie Hoyt, Executive Director of the Arts Council for Wyoming County, “We’re thrilled to host his show as our last of the year and of the theme. The audience should feel familiar with the content of the show, and we love to give people time to reflect on things that are so close to home.”

In 1985, David began his journey to become a master painter. His primary medium for the last thirty years has been watercolor. He has spent years studying and experimenting with discipline techniques that have leveraged significant results in mastering his craft, and earned him several awards in art shows including a People’s Choice awards at the 2014 and 2015 ACWC’s Local Color show.
